Akira Mizuno has been involved in research on applied electrostatics and high-voltage engineering, which includes electrostatic precipitation, environmental application of non-thermal plasma, sterilization, and manipulation of single DNA molecules. He received PhD. Degree in electrical engineering from the University of Tokyo in 1978. He was with Ishikawajima-Harima Heavy Industries Company, Ltd., Tokyo in 1978. In 1981, he moved to Toyohashi University of Technology, Toyohashi, Japan. Since 1994, he was a professor, and 2016, he retired and became a professor emeritus. He is currently a researcher at the graduate school of informatics, Kyoto University, involved in research on possible relation between atmospheric current and earthquake, and on mechanism of electrical coupling of crust and ionosphere. He is a technical advisor for AMANO and ASADA corporation. He was a former president of the Institute of Electrostatics Japan. He is a life fellow of IEEE.
